“Explosive Decompression on Kaylanna 31! Several critical systems are offline. It is dead in the water.”
“Continue targeting the Gun Boat,” Mali-Lon ordered.
“Orbital reversal complete, fuel level at 78%,” her helmsmen stated.
The Tiger Shark pursued the Surakari warship, throwing fire cannon shells towards it flank.
“Targeting solution acquired, 80% probability of hit Captain”
“Fire Torpedo!”
The Fire Torpedo burned through space, its glowing mass slamming into the Gun Boat. Surakari Engines erupted into a green flash spewing structure in all directions. The wrecked hull spun like a dancer through space continuing on its original trajectory.
Plasma beams stabbed at the Tiger Shark burning deep gouges in its active armor. Mali-Lon’s head bobbed forward with the series of hits to her ship. Her eyes scanned the sensor screen, locking onto the computer’s highlighted targets. Two Draco Frigates closed in from the eight o’clock direction.
“Point our torpedo launcher at those ships!” The Captain commanded.
The Tiger Shark twirled on its axis and fired thrusters to alter its course by several meters per second. A trio of plasma bursts flashed past the Heragul warship. A fourth one smashed head on into its front. Armor melted and splashed off into space. A torpedo belched from the Tiger Shark. The massive warhead finding its target, scouring a cavern into the belly of the Surakari’s nose. Secondary explosions flashed in the distance.
“The target is venting something. It’s velocity towards the planet is increasing and its trying to correct its course with its thrusters.”
“Put more fire cannons into that wound. I want that ship crippled before they are on top of us,” the captain stated.
New indicators flashed into existence on the sensor screen and swarmed the Surakari Frigate pair. Two more Heragul Frigates threw javelin missiles at the wounded enemy. Explosions blossomed as the missiles avoid the ship’s defensive fire. More plasma lances scarred the Tiger Shark as her fire cannons drilled into the Surakari. As three warships worth of Fire cannons bit through Surakari armor, a massive explosion blasted from within the target’s hull. The glare overwhelming the visual cameras being shown on the sensor screen.
“The target suffered a critical reactor failureā¦I think,” stated the sensor officer, “It is drifting and does not appear to be acting under its own power.”
A blast shoved Mali-Lon to the side, her chair restraints digging into her body.
“What was that?” she asked before examining the ship’s status on the screen to her right.
Multiple icons in sequence flashed along the starboard side of the hull.
“We lost starboard thruster cooling systems. Our lateral course adjustments will be a bit hobbled,” the helmsmen informed.
“How did that happen?” the Captain questioned.
A new voice boomed throughout the bridge, “A squadron of enemy Interceptors broke through the defensive squadrons and targeted the starboard cooling fins. We scattered them and I don’t think they will be able to launch another attack run,” the hunter pilot concluded.
Mali-Lon shot her attention back to the main tactical screen. The remaining Surakari Frigate was in retreat. She then scanned the status of her fleet. One warship lost and two others crippled.
“Make sure we get all of the escape pods from those warships. As soon as it it clear, recall our Hunter fighters and finally, where are our scientists? They were supposed to be here before the Surakari attacked!”

“No! Leave that behind. You are not bringing scientific experiments with you!” Hal-Ax-Ti yelled.
Captain Mali-Lon’s voice crackled over his receiver, “Where is your team? Why have you not launched yet?”
“Clearly I needed to be more clear about what emergency evacuation means. We have one scientist left in the building that needs to get aboard.”
“Left in the building? What does that mean?” the Captain questioned.
“Two of our crew are out in the field. Kar-Al-Lynn and Alendar are out in the field.”
Mali-Lon sighed, “There is nothing more we can do. You need to be off the ground now. We already drove back the first Surakari wave at the cost of two warships and a third one is really bad shape.”
“Get aboard now. Your delay is getting Heragul killed!” Hal-Ax-Ti screamed at the last crew member as he shoved him into the shuttle.”
“What was that?” the captain asked?
“Sorry Captain. I just got the last of the team aboard. We will be lifting off in a few seconds.”
Hal-Ax-Ti focused on the control panel in front of him. The shuttles course had already been downloaded from the fleet above. Counting down from 100%, another section indicated how much atmospheric pressure remained in the landing bay. As it reached zero, the roof of the bay split open, peeling back revealing a sky full of non-twinkling stars. The shuttle’s landing pad crawled away from the bay and shifted into launch position.
“Everyone in their seats? Launch in 10 seconds.” Hal-Ax-Ti stated.
