Tyronna Four – Two Hours After the Start of the Surakari Invasion.
The Tyronar Eight exploded from bow to stern. A series of fireballs tore up the ship sending pieces of flaming debris in every direction. Clearly its reactor must have gone critical and Captain Har-Ky-Lon was not surprised. He had never seen a Heragul Destroyer take so much damage before.
That was when reality hit him. He just watched their last destroyer fall to the Surakari. The debris from the vessel was now slowly burning in Tyronna Four’s thin atmosphere. All that stood between the invaders and the water mining operations on Tyronna Four were the four hammerhead class frigates he commanded. Armed with six fire cannons and two javelin missile launchers each, massive firepower doesn’t describe these ships. Fortunately, many of the Surakari, as he had been told they’re called, had fallen to the destroyer fleet guarding the planet. Still two enemy frigates and two destroyers charged his line. Har-Ky-Lon knew he was outgunned, but he was going to stand his ground.
Javelin missiles swam the void of space before the ships closed within firing range. Volley after volley of missiles peppered the attacker’s ships. Some missiles fell to the AA guns of the Surakari, but many exploded on target. Small explosions indicated hits while large ones reflected more serious damage. The Surakari marked the real beginning of this fight by firing their plasma beams.
“All ships, fire emergency boosters! Close the distance and isolate the indicated frigate,” Har-Ky-Lon ordered.
In an instant training took over. The frigates moved as if they were a single entity. Fire cannons blasted into the Surakari while plasma cannons tore into the Heragul. Tyronar 23 took the brunt of the damage, but all four frigates suffered from the attackers. As expected, the enemy frigate found itself isolated and fire cannons smashed it apart from all sides.
New contacts appeared. Har-Ky-Lon watched six wings of scouts approach from the remaining enemies. These small fighters didn’t attack warships directly, but they aided their parent vessels in targeting. Quickly, the enemies put these ships to use. Multiple beams blasted Tyronar 23. Her engines caught fire and exploded. The burning hull began a death waltz with Tyronna Four.
Another contact, almost within weapon’s range, jumped in. This time it chimed with the friendly indicator. Har-Ky-Lon could only think of one captain who would be crazy or bold enough to pull such a close planet jump. The Tyronar One, a battle cruiser, began firing torpedoes and launching hunter fighters only seconds after fully appearing.
Two of Har-Ky-Lon’s frigates joined their new friend in attacking the lead hostile destroyer. Not too long after, the Surakari warship’s reactor when critical and it suffered a fate similar to that of the Tyronar Eight. What was left of the Surakari fleet retreated back. Victory had been won for now, but a second and much larger Surakari force was detected around a hour away.
“Its good to see you Captain,” Har-Ky-Lon greeted.
“Thanks, I’m glad I could save someone. The entire Tyronna system is under attack.,” Captain Tur-Si-Lok answered, “Prepare to leave orbit. We are getting our of here.”
“The latest orders from district command is to have all ships hold their position. We will protect this planet until the end.”
“The water mining facilities have just finished their evacuation. You fought well today Captain Har-Ky-Lon and I know the district orders. Your skills will better serve the Heragul Empire elsewhere then dying here protecting a lifeless rock.”
